Captain Brodie Torrance (played by Gerard Butler), a former RAF pilot flying commercial routes in South East Asia, faces a series of challenges on New Year's Eve as he attempts to land his plane during a severe storm. Not only must he navigate the treacherous weather conditions, but he is also transporting a shackled prisoner, Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), a former French Foreign Legion operative who is being extradited to stand trial for murder.
Despite the odds, Captain Torrance successfully makes an emergency landing on the island of Jolo in the Philippines. However, his troubles are far from over as he discovers that the island is ruled by lawless separatists and militias, making it dangerous for both himself and his passengers. With the help of Gaspare's skills, Captain Torrance must not only rescue his passengers but also navigate the dangerous terrain and outwit the militants to ensure everyone's survival.
