The Womb (2022) Movie | M-Cinema24
Netflix's The Womb (2022), also known as Inang, is a horror movie from Indonesia that revolves around a pregnant woman. The protagonist, Wulan, a supermarket employee, is abandoned by her boyfriend upon discovering that she is pregnant. The movie follows Wulan as she turns to Facebook to find a solution and ends up meeting a mysterious older couple, Agus and Eva, who promise to take care of her baby. They offer Wulan a place to stay in their house and take care of all pregnancy-related medical bills. However, things start to unravel when Wulan experiences eerie circumstances and begins witnessing the family's strange behavior. Wulan discovers that the family is part of an occult group that sacrifices babies every ten years to save their cursed son. Wulan and her unborn child become the perfect victims for the sacrifice.
The Womb is a horror-thriller that also has some slow-burn drama. It's surprisingly relatable, and the story is not just pure evil, as one might first think. The first reaction of the young woman is to get angry, but she turns to Facebook and finds a support group. It's through this Facebook group that she finds a mysterious older couple who are looking to adopt. The couple is sweet and kind, and they never pressure her into making a decision.
While pregnant women and horror have long been a strong match, The Womb is more of a classic horror movie that delves into the occult. The story in this movie is good, and it will probably leave viewers wondering what they would do if they found themselves in a similar situation. The movie has a strong emotional core, and it's not just about jump scares and crazy CGI effects.
Overall, The Womb is a solid horror movie that's worth watching. However, it could have benefited from being condensed a bit, as the almost two-hour run time felt drawn out. Additionally, the pacing was a tad too slow, and the special effects weren't the best. Nevertheless, the acting was decent across the board, with two high-intensity, high-emotion scenes from the son towards the end. If you're a fan of foreign folk horror, The Womb is a must-watch and gets a 6/10 rating. For most viewers, it would land around a 5/10 rating, but it's still worth recommending.
